About
About Dr. Samantha Mahr
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in full-time private practice in New York. I offer remote therapy to individuals located anywhere in New York State, as well as in-person sessions in New York City and an office in Westchester. I work with adults from diverse backgrounds and identities, and I strive to create a thoughtful, inclusive, and collaborative therapeutic space where people can feel understood, supported, and deeply engaged in their own growth.
My approach to therapy is insight-oriented and relational, grounded in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic thinking. I am a candidate in psychoanalytic training at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, where I continue to deepen my work around emotional experience, relationship patterns, and the ways early and ongoing life experiences shape the present. I also completed specialized training in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International (PSI), which informs my work with individuals navigating pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, fertility challenges, and the emotional complexities of early parenthood.
Prior to entering full-time private practice, I served as the Director of Training and a Supervising Psychologist at Fordham University’s Counseling and Psychological Services at the Lincoln Center campus, where I provided therapy and supervised doctoral psychology students, psychiatry residents, and fellows. I currently continue to supervise a doctoral psychology student at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, which allows me to remain closely engaged with clinical training, mentorship, and ongoing professional development.
I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. My clinical training included work in a college counseling center, a psychoanalytic training institute, a community outpatient clinic, and inpatient psychiatric settings. I completed my predoctoral internship at North Central Bronx Hospital, where I treated adults with severe and persistent mental illness in an inpatient setting.
